Legal Brief Session – Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) – Thurs, Oct 20thContributed by Christopher Crawford on 09/12/11 Who: All faculty, staff, and students who are interested in learning more about FERPA. What: All members of the campus community, especially those who manage confidential student records, are invited to attend the next Legal Brief session on FERPA. Nancy Pringle, Vice-President and General Counsel, will be leading a lunch-time presentation/discussion on the confusion surrounding the interpretation of FERPA and will discuss the common pitfalls that could lead to a Department of Education complaint.This session will include a review of FERPA basics, including the protections afforded to students and parents under the law, as well as the new FERPA regulations and their practical implications.
