The Homer Workflow Project Group has been investigating workflow tools specifically for use with the Homer and HomerConnect systems. Please join us on September 19, 22 and 23 for our three remote workflow vendor presentations. All sessions are open to the campus community.

The schedule for each day will be as follows:

Evaluator orientation (required for those intending to provide feedback) – 20 minutes
Workflow overview – 10 minutes
Demonstration of a workflow – 75 minutes
Break – 15 minutes
Unique aspects of vendor product – 30 minutes
General question and answer session – 15 minutes
Technical information – 45 minutes

A separate, unrelated effort was undertaken this past spring to investigate a workflow solution within the context of a campus-wide Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solution. A workflow solution for Homer and HomerConnect is outside of any ECM solution and, therefore, is a separate undertaking.

Many of you are probably familiar with workflow software but may not know it.  With the college's Parnassus system, workflow is used to automate a number of processes, including hiring new faculty and staff members and time card entry processing. The Homer Workflow project’s goal is to select a similar tool to automate a number of processes related to data and processes within the Homer and HomerConnect systems. Workflow focuses on processes rather than documents and is used to manage and enforce the consistent handling of work.

The benefits of introducing a workflow tool within Homer and HomerConnect include:

-          Integration of Homer and HomerConnect forms and data into business processes

-          Increased automation and visibility for Homer and HomerConnect processes

-          Consistency in college-wide procedures

-          Automatic events based on Homer and HomerConnect processes or data conditions

-          Accelerated completion of Homer and HomerConnect cross-departmental tasks

-          Dramatic savings in staff time in working with Homer and HomerConnect related processes

The addition of a Homer and HomerConnect workflow tool will substantially improve efficiencies and effectiveness to administrative and academic activities thereby supporting the College's desire to blend technology with educational techniques and administrative support practices.

Evaluation forms will be given to those who attend the demonstrations and a brief instruction session will be provided to offer guidance in filling out the evaluation form.
