Joint Harpsichord Recital Friday, September 16th at 7pmContributed by Molly O'Shea Polk on 09/12/11
Featuring: Hockett Family Recital Hall
Johann Sebastian Bach’s miscellaneous keyboard works will be featured along with Part II of his monumental four-volume series called the Clavierübung (keyboard practice) on a harpsichord recital on Friday, 16 September in the Hockett Family Recital Hall at 7:00 P.M. Two harpsichords will be used for the program, one by William Dowd (1922–2008), the other by Frank Hubbard (1920–1976), two American instrument builders primarily responsible for restoring Baroque keyboard music to the instruments for which the composers intended it. This concert is the continuation of a project initiated several years ago to perform the complete harpsichord works of Bach here on the IC campus. Previous programs have included the second volume of his Well-tempered Clavier, the Goldberg Variations, the Two- and Three-Part Inventions, and Part I of the Clavierübung consisting of the six partitas. Like the previous concerts, this program is a collaborative presentation that combines faculty (Harpsichord studio professor, Jean C. Radice and Professor of Music History Mark A. Radice), alumni of the Ithaca College School of Music (Jonathan Riss and Mary Holzhauer), as well as current School of Music student Clera Ryu. The concert is free and open to the public.
