On Sunday, October 2nd at 8:15 PM in Ford Hall, Ithaca College pianist Josh Condon will host an evening of classical, jazz and gospel music featuring special appearances by Ithaca's own VOICES Multicultural Chorus and the internationally known jazz vocalist Nancy Kelly.

Kelly, during her thirty-plus year career, has honed her trademark swing/bop take no prisoner’s back-to-the-roots swinging style in front of audiences across the U.S. and abroad--from Singapore to Switzerland, France, and Turkey to her 3 tours of Japan.  Kelly appears regularly in New York City including performances at The Blue Note, Birdland and The Rainbow Room and Dizzy’s Jazz club, Lincoln Center.  She works frequently in Los Angeles and Miami, as well as countless jazz clubs, festivals, and symphony orchestra engagements across the country.  Kelly was twice named “Best Female Jazz Vocalist” in the Down Beat Readers’ Poll, and has recorded four critically acclaimed CDs.  Her first CD, “Live Jazz,” reached #11 on the Billboard charts, and “Born to Swing” and her latest CD “Well Alright" both feature guest tenor saxophonist Houston Person.

The VOICES Multicultural Chorus is a local community chorus under the direction of Dr. Baruch Whitehead and Lorrene Adams.  This past May, the chorus was featured in a concert of music from Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess" along with Pennsylvania State University's The Essence of Joy Choir, under the direction of Dr. Anthony Leach, as well as four professional soloists and the Beverly J. Martin children's chorus.  VOICES will be performing some of Josh Condon's original works along with several other Ithaca College vocalists and instrumentalists.

Condon, a sophomore at Ithaca College, will be hosting the concert and performing the works of Bach, Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Gershwin, Oscar Peterson and many more. During his musical career thus far he has performed and studied with jazz greats such as Wynton Marsalis, Bradford Marsalis, John Clayton, Bill Cunliffe, and many others.  Condon has performed at the Rochester Jazz Festival, Vail Jazz Festival, Corning Jazz and Harvest Festival, and also the Charles Mingus Summit at the Manhattan School of Music, where in 2009 he received an Outstanding Soloist award from a panel of judges that consisted of critically acclaimed artists such as Vincent Herring, Gunther Schuller, Justin DiCioccio, Sue Mingus, and others.  A winner of the 2010 David Hochstein Piano Competition in Rochester, Condon also was a finalist for Ithaca College’s concerto competition in January 2011.
