Ithaca College Theatre returns Oct. 4 with its 8 p.m. production of ‘Plumfield, Iraq,’ written by award-winning playwright Barbara Lebow and directed by Cynthia Henderson. Performances will continue Oct. 6th-8th and 11th-15th at 8 p.m. with two 2 p.m. matinee performances Oct. 9 and 15. All performances will take place in the Clark Theatre in Dillingham Center.

Set in the small town of Plumfield, Washington, this drama opens with six high school seniors planning their futures together -- eager but ill equipped to take on the world. Two of the boys decide to follow through with a childhood pact to join the Army as the means of paying for college and a one-way ticket out of Plumfield. The play provides a lens into the mind of a young man struggling to come to terms with the debilitating effects of his military service in Iraq and explores what coping mechanisms mean to a young war veteran and those closest to him. From ‘what if’ scenarios to a barrage of nightmares mixed with memories, Lebow seeks to send her characters down the long road of recovery to find forgiveness for that which cannot be undone.

“Plumfield, Iraq” brings to life what director Henderson calls “the machine of war and the person caught up in it.” Through the use of multimedia including projections and video, the drama explores an ageless story of war’s trail of guilt and innocence using today’s technological reality. “I want to show how this generation processes information differently than those in previous wars,” says Henderson, “As a soldier today, PTSD is coming at you from all angles; it’s sensory overload.”

“Plumfield, Iraq” is designed by Ithaca College Theatre Arts faculty members Brian Prather (scenic), Greg Robbins (costumes), Steve TenEyck (lighting) and Don Tindall (sound). The cast includes Will Boyajian ’12, Ned Donovan ’12, Denzel Edmondson ’12, Elizabeth Ellison ’12, John Gardner ’12, Doug Hansen ’12, Kalina Jasper ‘15, Michael Kushner ’13, Maggie Moe ’13, Mallory Newbrough ’12, Katie Peters ’12, Joseph Pietropaolo ‘14, Josh Sedelmeyer ’12 and Abdullah Abed.
