Ithaca College

The Alash ensemble is a quartet of master throat singers (xöömeizhi) from Tuva, a tiny republic in the heart of Central Asia. The ancient art of throat singing (xöömei) developed among the nomadic herdsmen of this region. Alash remains grounded in this tradition while expanding its musical vocabulary with new ideas from the West.

Hosted by the Departments of Theater Arts and Anthropology with support from The School of Humanities and Sciences Educational Grant Initiative and the Diversity Awareness Committee, IC modern dancers will perform alongside Alash during a few songs.

The performance will be held Tuesday October 11th at Dillingham Studio # 2 from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The World Music workshop on Tuvan throat singing will be held Wednesday October 12th at the James J. Whalen Center for Music room 3302 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
