Project Look Sharp is Ithaca College’s award-winning educational initiative within the School of Humanities and Sciences that supports media literacy integration into K- College classrooms.  We are a non-profit organization that provides media literacy materials, lesson plans, curriculum kits, and workshops to help educators effectively integrate media literacy into classroom curricula.  Join our on-campus  team to help promote critical thinking and media literacy skills for the next generation. We host an average of 8 to 10 internships per semester and attract students from all majors!  View our diverse list of internships for Spring 2012 below, and visit our website for more information.

Advertising, Health and Violence Prevention Curriculum for K-5

Research media (commercials and other advertising, TV programs, films, Internet websites) for the development of elementary media literacy lessons on advertising, nutrition, body image, gender stereotypes, and bullying and safety issues.  As a K-5 Curriculum Intern, you will help design, edit and format lessons plans for publication. Additionally, you may learn to digitize visual and video content and upload files to the Project Look Sharp channel on YouTube.  This internship also incorporates testing and evaluating lessons on Advertising, Health, and Violence Prevention in local school districts.

Work collaboratively with Project Look Sharp’s Director of Curriculum and Staff Development to support the development and dissemination of educational lessons that integrate media literacy and critical thinking into curricula.  Activities may include researching media documents (TV and film clips, print ads, etc.), managing a wiki, researching grant possibilities, editing lessons for posting to our website, and supporting teachers and librarians across upstate New York State as they develop media literacy lessons. Option to attend training sessions based on your availability.

Video Production
Use your expertise in video production to promote critical thinking about media messages for Project Look Sharp. Work collaboratively with Project Look Sharp’s Director of Curriculum and Staff Development to create a variety of innovative short videos that promote our work and teach educators about media literacy practices. These instructional videos will be used in workshops and will be posted to our website and Youtube. Experience with Final Cut Pro or equivalent is required.
