Film by James Rada, Journalism, receives Accolade Award of MeritContributed by Melissa Gattine on 10/20/11 A documentary by James Rada, associate professor in the Department of Journalism, was given an Accolade Award of Merit. The Accolade recognizes established and emerging producers who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity. Undiscovered and first-time producers are often recognized. The Accolade recognizes productions from all over the world including Australia, Belgium, China, Columbia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Guam, Germany, Greece, Haiti, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Paraguay, Philippines, Qatar, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States and Venezuela. Rada’s film, Deeds Not Words: The Buffalo Soldiers in World War II, tells the true story of one of the last segregated army units as told by the men themselves. Included in the documentary are interviews with the Director of the Army War College, the daughter of one of the white officers in the unit and one of the 92nd Division’s biggest supporters, former Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Colin Powell. |
