These women seek a change of pace and find beauty in everything the city has to offer, but nothing has prepared them for their chance meeting with a young Italian man. An instantaneous connection forms between Clara and Fabrizio Naccarelli, and the fire is fueled as the two repeatedly meet throughout the city, much to the dismay of Mrs. Johnson. But both Clara and her mother are instantly drawn to the welcoming Naccarelli family and forced to face the tension created by differing familial values and well-kept secrets. An operatic musical score drives the action forward as the young couple works to surmount every obstacle in their path toward happiness. “The Light in the Piazza” is directed by associate professor of theatre arts Susannah Berryman and choreographed by associate professor Mary Corsaro. The music director is assistant professor of music performance Brian DeMaris.
