Comments from your colleagues about Pathways, IC’s crisis intervention and suicide prevention training.Contributed by LeBron Rankins on 10/26/11 Pathways is a crisis intervention and suicide prevention training offered to members of the campus community by CAPS. To date, more than four hundred persons have attended a Pathways training. Recently, one participant remarked that the training “empowered” her to approach a student who might be in distress. The goals of Pathways are to enhance faculty, staff and students’ ability to identify, approach, and refer students who might be in distress. Here are a few comments from participants about their training or what they want you to know about Pathways: “This is valuable training that can ensure that you know how to help others who may be in distress.” “We all worry about our peers, now we know how to help.” “Sometimes all a person needs is someone who cares. With this training, you can be that person.” “I had no idea I needed training in this at first. I signed up on a whim and thank God I did. It is amazing that it took a mere hour and a half to teach me how to save a life.” Pathways “is a valuable tool for enhancing both the college’s educational mission and its campus climate.” Pathways is an “excellent resource. This should be required of all faculty, staff and admin!” Pathways trainings are offered each semester. Faculty and staff can check here for training dates/times. Students can check here for training dates/times. Trainings for departments/groups can be arranged by contacting LeBron Rankins, Ph.D. or Paul Mikowski, Ph.D. at 607-274-3136 or counseling@ithaca.edu.
