Before there was Hollywood, Ithaca was the movie capital of the world. That's right, more than 100 movies were made in Ithaca in the early days of film. Bring you parents to this Family Weekend event!

The Roy H. Park School of Communications in partnership with Ithaca Motion Picture Project (IMPP) invite you and your family to take a look back at Ithaca's movie making past with a visual presentation about IMPP's premiere exhibition, Romance, Exploits & Peril: When Movies Were Made in Ithaca, and the screening of a short video that places the silent movies made in Ithaca in the context of early motion picture and the burgeoning movie industry.  Featured exhibits cover a who's who portrait gallery from the Wharton Studios era, Ithaca's silent film theatres, Whartons' sets and locations, the link between the aviation industry and the film industry in Ithaca and and a look at the glamorous Irene Castle.  A rare clip from an episode of  Wharton, Inc.'s Elaine serial,  The Missing Torpedo Model (1915), just recently acquired by IMPP, will also be featured, with live music by Mary Lorson.
