Contributed by Susan Monagan on 11/03/11

At approximately 4:30 pm, following the November 12th matinee performance of "The Light in the Piazza," please join Park School of Communications Professor Holly Van Buren for a discussion on the portrayal of Italy as a place of love, romance, and fantasy in American film and popular culture. Professor Van Buren will be discussing portrayals of Italy from before World War II to the present day.

About the Speaker: Holly Van Buren currently works as an Instructor in the department of Cinema, Photography and Media Arts. Before coming to the home campus, Holly served as the Assistant to the Director of the Ithaca College Los Angeles Program for five years, advising students participating in the college’s internship program. While in this position, she also fostered a strong connection between alumni and current students, organizing entertainment industry related panels and mentor relationships. During her time in Los Angeles, Holly received a Masters of Arts in Critical Studies of Film and Television from the University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts. Her areas of research include silent film stars (particularly Italian divas), political economy, and medium specificity.

The discussion is free and open to the public. Tickets to “The Light in the Piazza” may be purchased by calling (607) 274-3224 or visiting ithacaevents.com. For more information, click here
