“Fog,” a documentary about the quest to unravel the fate of a missing soldier, will be shown at Ithaca College on Tuesday, Nov. 8, as part of the Israeli Voices film series. Free and open to the public, the screening will take place at 7 p.m. in Textor 101.

A fascinating story of bereavement and mysticism, “Fog” tells the story of Mu’in Halabi, an Israeli soldier who disappeared during a battle with the Syrians at the beginning of the 1973 Yom Kippur War. The Israeli Defense Forces later announced that his body had been found, and a casket was buried in his hometown, the Druze village of Daliat el-Carmel.

Four years later, however, a child in another village declared that he was the reincarnation of Mu’in; some years after that, residents of Daliat el-Carmel testified to having heard Mu’in speak on the Syrian State Radio. Veteran newsman Rafik Halabi set out on a journey into time, memory and the Druze religion to make this documentary that explores the Druze belief in the re-embodiment of the soul and attempts to uncover the truth behind Mu’in Halabi’s supposed death.
