The first-ever nationwide test of the federal Emergency Alert System (EAS) will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 2:00 p.m. The alert will run simultaneously on all broadcast radio and television stations, cable TV, satellite radio and television services, and other video service providers across the United States.

This test will not involve the Ithaca College Emergency Notification System or Outdoor Warning System, so members of the IC community will not receive voice, text, or e-mail messages or hear the campus sirens.

The Federal Communications Commission and U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency are conducting the nationwide test to help the federal agencies and EAS participants determine the reliability of the system and its effectiveness in notifying the public of emergencies and potential dangers, both regionally and nationally.

There is no need to take any action in response to the test.
