The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs encourages all Ithaca College students interested in presenting their undergraduate research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Spring 2012 to prepare and plan to submit their presentation abstracts no later than November 15, 2011.

The 26th National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) will bring together undergraduates involved in scholarly and artistic activities from more than 300 colleges and universities in the nation, drawing well over 2,000 undergraduates, faculty, and administrators to promote undergraduate research in all fields of study.

The 2012 national conference will be held from Thursday, March 29th through Saturday, March 31st at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. The Provosts Office will cover the NCUR conference registration costs for Ithaca students whose abstracts are selected. Students who have previously been funded by the Office of the Provost to attend an NCUR conference (not including last year's conference here at Ithaca College) may submit an abstract, but if accepted, will not be eligible for repeat funding from the Provost. You should contact your department chair or school dean to inquire about additional conference funding support. If multiple students are listed as co-authors on an accepted presentation abstract, only one representative from the team will be funded to attend the conference.

Please note that the James J. Whalen Academic Symposium will be held in Spring 2012; other members of a presentation team may plan to present there.

NCUR 2012 on-line abstract submissions close on November 15, 2011, at 11:59PM MST.

Below are links to instructions on how to submit an online abstract of your research project. Speak with your faculty research adviser about this opportunity, as he or she must sign off on your abstract.

Submission abstracts should:

  • State in clear terms the central research question and the purpose of the research
  • Provide a brief discussion of the research methodology
  • State conclusions (either final or anticipated)
  • Be well organized

All abstracts will undergo a rigorous review by a panel of faculty reviewers from Weber State. Abstract reviewers will evaluate submissions based on the criteria listed above and will assess the overall creativity within the context of the specific academic discipline.

One additional benefit of presenting at NCUR is the opportunity for students to publish their work in the conference proceedings, which are distributed to institutions across the nation. All student presenters at the conference -- including students in the performing and visual arts -- are invited to submit manuscripts for review by the Proceedings Board.
