Services on Long Island have been scheduled for later this week for Gregory Mantone, a junior in the School of Music who was killed in an automobile accident early Saturday morning while on a weekend trip to New York City.

Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, NY. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Anselm’s Episcopal Church, 4 Woodville Rd., Shoreham, NY. For more information and directions, visit the O.B. Davis Funeral Homes website.

Since Gregory was a great lover of the theater, his parents have requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, 165 West 46th St., Suite 1300, New York, NY 10036.

A music education major, Gregory played the euphonium in the Ithaca College Symphonic Band and sang in the Chorus. He was a graduate of Mount Sinai (N.Y.) High School.

Counselors will be available throughout the day on Monday in the School of Music. The Counseling Center will also provide assistance in Muller Chapel for students, staff, and faculty who may want to speak with individuals trained specifically in the grieving processes related to sudden loss. In addition, the School of Music has reserved the Hockett green room for the week for those who would prefer an informal place to gather and grieve together.

I know the entire campus community joins me in extending our heartfelt thoughts and prayers at this difficult time to Gregory’s parents, Stephen and Linda; sister, Emily; and the rest of his family as well as to his friends, classmates, and professors.

Brian McAree
Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life
