II.  Information and Updates:
In January, First-Year Experience will be hosting the spring orientation program called Winter Welcome. The majority of these students will be transferring in from another institution. We want to provide all the resources and connections possible to help these students in their transition to Ithaca College. If you have even a few hours free each semester, please consider joining the SHIFT Coordinating Board next semester. We are looking for a few creative individuals looking to assist with the programs and resources SHIFT is trying to provide. Contact Erica Shockley (eshockley@ithaca.edu) in OSEMA if you are interested.

III.  Tips from the SHIFT Coordinating Board:

Hello Ithaca Transfers!

I want to reach out to you all with this brief message. I hope those of you who want to get involved in the community will consider joining SHIFT. When I was a sophomore, I mostly kept to myself, ran on the ellipticals at the gym, spent time with a couple friends, and did a lot of writing (being a writing major and just for the fun of it). It really hit me when I realized half of my college career was over and I should connect with the community more. I'm really glad I did. When I first started looking for ways I could help other transfers, my only idea was to write a proposal asking ResLife to provide transfers with the option of living in a dorm or on a floor surrounded by other transfers. After all, you can't tell just by looking at someone whether they are a transfer or not. We are all very different, and it was while I was writing my proposal that I met up with the group of people who founded SHIFT. I learned from them that everyone's experience is different, and I think some of the most fun moments I've had at this school have happened while among the friends I made in SHIFT. It was wonderful to get to know people who had similar experiences and yet participated in the different schools of Ithaca College and had different points of view. I hope all of you get involved in the community here, but I would highly recommend working in the SHIFT program. I like to think that being a part of this group has not only been a benefit for myself, but also for you all and future transfers. We've got a lot of room to grow. Help us help the community and help each other!

Good luck to everyone with final exams and projects and enjoy the winter break. We've earned it!

Best,

~Gaelyn
