Cynthia Henderson, Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre Arts, has been recognized by Sustainable Tompkins for her ongoing work with Performing Arts for Social Change (PASC). Professor Henderson was formally recognized for her contributions to sustainability at an awards reception on December 11th at the Women's Community Building in downtown Ithaca. Her “Sign” is on display among those of other award-winners.
The project that caught the attention of Sustainable Tompkins was Professor Henderson’s ZUMBATHON! fundraiser held on the Commons on September 24, 2011. The event was a resounding success drawing dozens of participants from around Tompkins County for the health and wellness benefits of doing ZUMBA together as a community while raising awareness and significant funds for the Ithaca Free Clinic and the Veterans' Sanctuary Farm Program. The program was led by instructor Felipe Rivera in a ZUMBA dance-based cardio workout. The event was co-sponsored by Performing Arts for Social Change (PASC). Professor Henderson brought in actors from Ithaca College Theatre Arts who performed scenes from the play, Plumfield, Iraq, and raffled off tickets for their production.
