The Faculty Development Committee Invites Nominations for Faculty Excellence AwardsContributed by Arhlene Flowers on 12/19/11 The Faculty Development Committee is now accepting nominations for the Faculty Excellence Awards for academic year 2011-2012. The guidelines for completing and submitting a nomination can be downloaded from the CFE website <https://www.ithaca.edu/cfe/. Once again, the Faculty Development Committee is fortunate to offer five awards, each for $1,500. In order to be eligible for these awards, a candidate must be a full-time faculty member who has completed at least one year of employment at Ithaca College and who will be full-time (TE or NTEN) during the 2012-2013 academic year. Criteria: The foremost criterion for the Excellence Awards is an overall excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service appropriate to their appointment (descriptions of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service are stated in the Ithaca College Policy Manual, Volume IV: Faculty Handbook). Candidates should be able to demonstrate distinction reflecting all of the three areas of excellence noted above. Areas of distinction could include, but are not limited to innovations in teaching; experiential learning initiatives; diversity initiatives; sustainability initiatives; effectively incorporating scholarship into the classroom; bringing national recognition to Ithaca College; showcasing aesthetic expression at Ithaca College (through performance, direction, or exhibition); and exemplary service to the College, the larger community, and/or the discipline. Nomination: Any faculty member, administrator/staff member, or student from the college community may nominate an individual for an excellence award. It is the nominator’s responsibility to complete and submit the nomination, although a student nominator may request that this responsibility be given to a faculty member or administrator/staff member. Self-nominations are not eligible. Previous Nominations: Any former nominators of candidates for an excellence award in 2011 could resubmit the application, but should be sure to update materials and follow the current guidelines. Award winners from the past five years are not eligible for a nomination in this cycle. Reviewers: Nominations will be reviewed by the Faculty Development Committee. Reviewers are ineligible for these awards and may neither nominate nor write in support of a candidate. The awardees will be recognized at the annual luncheon for recipients of faculty development awards held in May and at Convocation. Deadline: The nomination form along with supporting materials must be submitted to Arhlene Flowers, Chair, Faculty Development Committee, Department of Strategic Communication, 366 Park Hall (telephone: 274-2366; email: aflowers@ithaca.edu) by Monday, March 19, 2012.
