Contributed by Linda Koenig on 01/24/12

New Housing Information

The Upper-Years program will continue in Terraces 9 &11 for the 2012-2013 academic year. This community will only be available to current Ithaca College students and incoming Transfer students looking for an opportunity to live exclusively with other upper-class students.

The First-year Residential  Experience (FYRE)Program is once again expanding for fall 2012. Beginning in fall 2012 the West Tower will also be part of the FYRE program. As a result returning students will not be able to select housing in the West Tower.

Off Campus Housing

Off campus applications are available at https://www.ithaca.edu/reslife/off_campus/.   All applications received are prioritized by date and time of the completed application.  A completed application includes the application, off-campus quiz, and parent/guardian approval if you are under the age of 21. Off-campus commitments should not be made until you have received written approval from the Office of Residential Life.

Learning Community/Specialty Housing

January 23, 2011:

Apartment, suite, and Block Housing applications are available in the Office of Residential Life.

Block housing is an option by which groups of 4-6 people can apply to live in a cluster of rooms near each other. This year Block Housing will be competitive due to a reduced number of block housing options available.

Learning Community Applications are available via HomerConnect.

Learning Community Applications are DUE

Learning Community applications are due no later than 5pm on March 2, 2012. Applications for HOME, Sustainably Conscious, Quartier Francais (French Language Community), Stockwerk Deutch (German Language Community), Vecinos (Spanish Language Community), Outdoor Adventure Learning, Honors, and Transfer Student Housing Communities  are all available on https://homerconnect.ithaca.edu/.

Students approved for any learning community should select housing on March 17, 2012 at https://homerconnect.ithaca.edu/ beginning at 7am. Selection will end at 11:59pm.

Apartment Information

In order to be able to better clean and maintain the Circle Apartments Residential Life is making several changes to the Circles Agreement for next year. The Circle Apartments opening date will be changed to August 19, 2012. Additionally, students will no longer be able to sublet their apartment over the summer. Finally, students who squat in the Circles, and remain over the summer, may be asked to relocate if their apartment requires painting or renovation over the summer.

Only one member of your group should log in during your selection window to choose housing for your group.

February 7, 2012—Students living in the Circle Apartments who wish to squat their room may do so as long as they meet squatting requirements beginning at 9am. Circle Apartment squatting will end at 11:59pm.   Every summer, the Office of Residential Life makes physical improvements to Circle Apartments.   Any student living in these apartments will be required to bring home their belongings if they are not remaining on campus over the summer.  Students living on campus over the summer will be required to consolidate into apartments in another building in order for work to be completed.  If you have questions about the renovation cycle or work being done to your apartment, you can email reshallops@ithaca.edu.

Important Senior Housing and Off Campus Housing Information:

If you have completed 5 or more semesters through Fall 2011 and you have not submitted a Senior Intention Form to the Office of Residential Life, you will not have access to select housing through Homer Connect because we assume you are going off-campus.

If you are a senior and you submitted a senior intention form, once you secure Fall 2012 housing you will relinquish your senior exemption and need to apply for off-campus if you wish to be considered.

If you have completed less than 5 semesters and have been approved for off-campus, you are assumed to be off-campus and will not have access to select housing through Homer Connect.

Students now have the ability to search the system for available housing without actually selecting an assignment by using the “View Housing Availability for Fall 2012”. This is a similar capability to what students have during advance registration where you can view the number of seats left in a class while other groups are registering. This will allow you to make informed decisions about what options you want to continue to pursue. This is a dynamic feature and so as spaces are selected they will not show in the system.

PLEASE NOTE:

Once you select housing, you will not be able to change your housing assignment for the Fall 2012 semester until summer wait list application become available on April 2, 2012.

If you experience any difficulties during the selection process, please use the “Report an Error” link. Be as specific as possible when identifying your problem as it will help us to fix the issue in a most timely manner. You can also use this link to provide us with feedback to help us improve the system for future processes.

Specific housing selection information is available on the Office of Residential Life website at https://www.ithaca.edu/reslife/guide/room_selection_programs/  If you have any questions, please email us at housing@ithaca.edu.
