Associate Professor James Rada's documentary received a Director's Choice Selection for the 31st Annual Black Maria Film Festival.

The film, "Deeds Not Words: The Buffalo Soldiers in World War II," tells the true story of one of the last segregated army units as told by the men themselves. Included in the documentary are interviews with the Director of the Army War College, the daughter of one of the white officers in the unit and one of the 92nd Division’s biggest supporters, former Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Colin Powell.

The Black Maria Film Festival has been named as one of "25 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee" by Moviemaker Magazine. Of the almost 500 entries received, fewer than 70 films were chosen for this year's program. The festival is traveling to numerous venues -- both domestic and international. For more information about the festival, visit: http://www.blackmariafilmfestival.org/.

Rada teaches in the Department of Journalism.
