If you are looking for an exciting, meaningful opportunity during your spring break, consider spending your week in Joplin, Missouri, or Salamanca, New York!

The Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs will be hosting trips to Joplin, Missouri, and Salamanca, New York, during the 2012 Alternative Spring Break.

In Joplin, Missouri, students will help residents recover from the May 2011 tornado that has been recorded as one of the worst in history. Nearly 8,000 homes were damaged or destroyed during the tornado, and there is still much work to do in order to restore Joplin to its past integrity.

In Salamanca, New York, students will do youth programs at the Salamanca Youth Center. Salamanca is the only city in the state of New York that is entirely on a Native Peoples territory. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about native and non-native peoples relations on the territory, as well!

Both of these trips offer students a genuine opportunity to make a difference during their spring break.

If you are interested in either of these spring break opportunities, please, contact Don Austin in OSEMA as soon as possible at 607 274 3222 or via email at austin@ithaca.edu. There is only one space available for each trip, and it will go to the first interested student!!

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Don Austin at austin@ithaca.edu. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
