15th Anniversary Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival: MicrotopiasContributed by Patricia Zimmermann on 02/22/12 The 15th annual Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival runs from March 25-April 1, 2012, on the Ithaca College campus and downtown at Cinemapolis. This year's festival theme is Microtopias. Join us for screenings, concerts, live music/silent film commissions, readings, performances, online art exhibitions, music, user-generated projects (this year, an installation on the quad at IC designed by our FLEFF interns!), discussions, blogs, forums, workshops, gatherings, filmmakers, new media artists, writers, activists, musicians and more. Guests confirmed for this year include new media artist Laura Kissel, new media artist and VJ Art Jones, film director Idirsssou Mora Kpai (Benin), film director and artist Shelley Niro (Canada/Mohawk), filmmaker Matt Podolsky, film distributors Kevin Lee and Rodrigo Brandao, and more to be announced as we approach our launch. What's a microtopia? Micro means small; utopia imagines cooperative harmony. Microtopias operate without constraints. Microtopias escape domination. Microtopias congregate people, ideas, andpraactices on a sustainable, decentralized scale. Microtopias catalyze collective participation and changes in the landscape. Tactical and temporary, microtopias show us how to inhabit possible worlds. More on FLEFF here. |
