SAFER Film Screening + open discussion: "Welcome to the Party"Contributed by Gena Mangiaratti on 02/26/12
This event is free and open to the public."Welcome to the Party" is a rape awareness and prevention film directed and edited by Assistant Professor of Television and Radio Tom Nicholson. An open discussion will follow the screening. Rape culture can be described as a society where rape is condoned through certain fundamental attitudes toward gender, sexuality, and violence. Many feminists and scholars argue that the United States is a rape culture, and that gender roles that set standards of how men and women should behave contribute to these attitudes. If you have any questions at all, feel free to e-mail us at SAFERithaca@gmail.com. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Olivia or Evelyn, co-presidents of SAFER, at SAFERithaca@gmail.com. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. Students Active for Ending Rape is a pro-active organization on campus that strives to end rape, victim-blaming, and 'rape culture' through education and raising awareness. SAFER normally meets Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. in Williams 224. We hope to see you there! To keep updated on SAFER, Like us on Facebook! |
