Save the date for the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival's World Premiere of Scavenger Hunt (USA, 2012), a film chronicling the California condor and lead poisoning,  on Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. at Cinemapolis.  

The film's codirectors, Matt Podolsky and Eddie Chung, will be present for the post-screening discussion. Mr. Podolsky is an Ithaca College dual-degree alum with a BS in Cinema and Photography and a BA in Environmental Studies.

The California Condor recovery program has been one of the highest profile endangered species management programs for many years.

Despite this, there are key aspects of the program and species that most people know nothing about. Although the range of the last historic population was concentrated in southern and central California, most biologists working with the species today agree that the condor population closest to reaching a self-sustaining level is found in Northern Arizona and Southern Utah.

Much conservation work with raptors and other birds in the past has dealt with how environmental contaminants detrimentally affect populations, and condors are no different.

Scavenger Hunt explores the world of the condor within the context of larger environmental concerns with haunting, beautiful cinematography.
