PODER Presents Tracing Music from Africa to the AmericasContributed by Melissa Cepeda on 02/27/12 Monday, March 5th at 7pm in Clark Lounge, PODER: Latino Students Association Presents Tracing Music from Africa to the Americas featuring Mr. Eldred Harris. Admission is free and open to the public. Tracing Music from Africa to the Americas will focus on the influence that African Music has played on today's most popular genres. We will essentially be centering our attention towards Cumbia, Merengue, Bachata, Reggae, Hip Hop, and Reggaeton. We will show how cultures have merged together to form something that everyone can call their own and how music has progressed over the years. Many of the musical mainstreams that we hear today were primarily started by marginalized groups. We will see how history has played a major role in how music evolved and how it has transformed into what we hear today. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Melissa Cepeda ( mcepeda1@ithaca.edu ). We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
