Latin American Writer and Journalist Roberto Herrscher to Speak March 8Contributed by Melissa Gattine on 02/28/12 Roberto Herrscher, one of the most innovative voices in Latin American literary journalism of the past 20 years, will serve as a visiting scholar-in-residence for the launch of the Dr. John Keshishoglou (Kesh) Center for Global Communications Innovation. Herrscher will be giving a public lecture on Thursday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. in the Park Auditorium titled: “History and Personal Experience as Sources of Narrative Journalism: Why and How I Returned to the Falkland/Malvinas Battlefields 25 Years Later.” Herrscher, director of the Masters Program in Journalism at the University of Barcelona, was born and raised in Argentina and later fought in the Malvinas/Falklands War in 1982. He earned a degree in Sociology at the University of Buenos Aires and an M.Sc. in Journalism from Columbia University. He is now is a contributing writer with Gatopardo and Travesías (Mexico), Etiqueta Negra (Perú) and Perfil (Argentina). Roberto is a culture and opera critic for La Vanguardia (Barcelona) and a correspondent with Opera News (U.S). Herrscher is also the author of The Voyages of the Penelope, the inspiration for his talk, and is currently working on a book on the banana plantations in Central America (Crónicas bananeras).
