New Partnership Expands NYC Program, Benefits IC CommunityContributed by Marisa Kelly on 03/06/12 As of this week, Ithaca College faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents have a place of their own to stay in the city that never sleeps. Ithaca College signed an agreement with Club Quarters that provides access to the company’s World Trade Center location for students in the Ithaca College New York City (ICNYC) program, as well as faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents traveling to New York City. The agreement includes a classroom and meeting space and discounted rates on hotel stays. This is one more step in the development of one of the core initiatives of IC 20/20 (ithaca.edu/ic2020), an expansion of the College’s offerings in locations across the nation, especially in New York City. Through the ICNYC program, students can gain hands-on experience through internships and take traditional courses as well. Club Quarters is a group of four-star, membership-based hotels with boutique-like amenities in prime downtown locations. Built in 2009, the Club Quarters World Trade Center is the only hotel facing the rising Freedom Tower. The rooftop restaurant features unfettered views of the 9/11 memorial and its reflecting pools. The College is proud to be part of the revitalization of lower Manhattan and to be associated with the positive symbol of 1 World Trade and the 9/11 memorial. Benefits to the ICNYC program Club Quarters will provide centralized classroom and meeting space for the students studying and working in New York City. Students will meet at the location at least once a week for classes, and the program director’s office will be located there. This spring, the ICNYC pilot program included 22 students from various majors who took classes and interned at places such as Saturday Night Live, the Late Show with David Letterman, Madison Square Garden, Nike, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and others. The program will expand next fall to include approximately 50 students from nine courses of study: o School of Business: business administration majors with marketing or finance concentrations o Roy H. Park School of Communications: journalism or communication management and design majors o School of Health Sciences and Human Performance: sport management or sport media majors o School of Humanities and Sciences: art history, art, and theatre arts management majors The courses of study offered each semester will vary to encourage students from a range of academic programs to participate. The deadline to apply for the fall 2012 semester is March 21. More information can be found at ithaca.edu/icnyc. Benefits for the IC community Everyone affiliated with IC, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents of students or alumni will enjoy discounted rates at Club Quarters for both professional and personal use. Rates are typically 25 percent lower than similar hotels in Manhattan, and the state-of-the art building offers a premium value for a full-service hotel centrally located near the financial district. Additionally, those affiliated with IC can book discounted rooms at any of the Club Quarters hotels including locations in Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, and London. To reserve a room at Club Quarters, call member services at 203-905-2100, fax 203-348-6401, or e-mail memberservices@clubquarters.com using the code: Ithaca. In addition to hotel stays, those affiliated with IC can rent spaces for social functions at the Club Quarters World Trade Center. The hotel offers a lounge on the first floor and two restaurants, including one on the rooftop. When faculty and staff travel to Manhattan for IC-related business, they will be required to stay at the Club Quarters World Trade Center location in order to meet the requisite membership visits. If that particular location is booked, there are four other locations in Manhattan where the discount can be used.
