 IC will be hosting a guest speaker, Patricia Isasa, from Argentina, with several events programmed around issues of “Citizenship and Human Rights in Argentina.” She is an Argentinian torture survivor who was imprisoned in 1976 as a 16-year for her role in student union organizing. She is now a human rights activist who has been at the forefront of the legal battles, truth commissions, and popular mobilization related to the trials and imprisonment of her and other Argentinians’ torturers. Her talks will  attract students interested in her personal testimony, issues of human rights, sexual violence, women's social movements, politics of memory.

 

She will be speaking in several venues at IC. The public events are listed below:

 1.

Teatro group short play "Telefono" about child abductions during the Dirty War military period in Argentina, followed by panel discussion including Patricia Isasa (Fri March 23 at 4:30 in Studio 2, Dillingham.) OPEN to public

EL JUICIO (The Trial) 2011

"El Juicio" documents the historic 2009 trial when Patricia Isasa, a torture survivor from Argentina and award-winning human rights activist, testifies about her captivity and identifies her captors. The film includes evidence and interviews made during the filming of an earlier documentary in which the torturers felt they had impunity under government-designed amnesty laws. In 2009 Patricia's torturers were found guilty of crimes against humanity and condemned to life in prison.
