On Saturday, March 24, the Business-Link Professions Program will host an all-day intensive career development and personal branding seminar, entitled “The Tool Kit,” to provide students all the tools they need to compete for top internships, top leadership experiences, and top jobs. The seminar is open to all current junior, senior and M.B.A. students.  Deadline to register is end of day Today, March 19Click here to register.

Today’s work environment is a challenging one – maybe one of the most challenging students will ever face.  It’s no longer enough to just be the top of your class, students need to be the full package and that means having all your tools sharpened and ready to be put to work.

Dean Mary Ellen Zuckerman says, "Students participating in this conference will learn about critical skills for identifying and obtaining internships and jobs, giving them a competitive advantage in today's job market."

The “Tool Kit” will help students identify what they want out of a career and provide them with a path to get them there. Through personal assessment of strengths, weaknesses, skills and personal goals, mixed with interactive dialogue and role-playing, guest speaker Rodney Miller will put his decades of experience in professional development and training to work for IC business students.

Rodney Miller comes to The School of Business from Corporate Insights, a firm comprised of consulting psychologists and management development professionals. Corporate Insights mission reads, “To provide the tools and skills necessary for employee and company development so that practical solutions are discovered and opportunities are created.” At Corporate Insights’ leadership helm is Dr. Jon Horowitz ’78, who has partnered with the Business School over a number of years to help build the infrastructure for the Business-Link Professions Program.

Before joining Corporate Insights, Mr. Miller was at the Walt Disney World® Resort, where he was both a contributor and manager at the Disney University in Instructional Systems Design. He authored the Organizational Leadership and Marketing U courses which were recommended for college and university credit by the American Council on Education.

Jessie Stone He, Professional Development Coordinator for the School of Business, says she is “excited by all the enthusiasm that students have already expressed so far for “The Tool Kit.” “Even our top students will leave the conference fully prepared to navigate the hurdles of this very challenging economy. It is not enough to simply have great grades and a killer resume. Each student needs to know how to tell his or her story, both on paper and in person. Beyond that they each need to know what they are looking for and have a focused approach to get them there. This conference will bring it all together.”

Established in 2010, the Business-Link Professions Program helps prepare students for internship and job opportunities by focusing on key needs for students including career preparedness, networking, mentoring, and personal branding. Beyond simply providing a wide variety of workshops throughout the year, the Business-Link Professions Program works directly with individual students to enhance how the personally present themselves, provides one-on-one coaching, and reaches out to our alumni community to develop an internship pipeline and circle of alumni mentors.

Following the seminar, there will be a networking reception with IC alumni, parents, friends, and internship site sponsors.
