I am pleased to announce that Ithaca College will take part in recognizing World Autism Day on Monday, April 2. This day is designated every year by the United Nations through the organization Autism Speaks to foster awareness and action with respect to the global autism crisis. Autism currently affects 1 in 110 children, including 1 in 70 boys.

Autism Speaks sponsors an initiative to “Light It Up Blue” as part of the autism awareness initiative. On the evening of April 2 landmarks around the world will be lit in blue – from Niagara Falls to Paris City Hall to the Sydney Opera House to the International Space Station in orbit! Ithaca College will participate with two buildings lit in blue: the tower of the A&E Center and the Dillingham Center for Theatre. The IC student organization Autism Speaks U will also be doing some awareness raising and fund raising work on that day, so please look for them in the Campus Center and elsewhere.
