Also, follow us on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ICTheatreArts and Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/ICTheatreArts Greg Bostwick, director of “Working” and professor of theatre arts at Ithaca College, says, “’Working’ provides a unique perspective in word and song on the aspirations and frustrations of people who provide for themselves and their families by working ‘all the livelong day.’” With characters that range from a steelworker to a parking lot attendant to a truck driver, “Working” sends this message of being proud of one’s work. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction, Studs Terkel was an American author, historian, actor, and broadcaster. Terkel is remembered today for his leadership in preserving American oral history and his numerous books, which covered topics including World War II, race relations, the 1930s Depression, and the American dream. Terkel’s dedication to interviewing dynamic people from all backgrounds and ensuring their every word is represented made him one of America’s greatest and most popular oral historians. Terkel’s book was adapted for the stage by Nina Faso and Stephen Schwartz, composer of “Wicked”, “Pippin”, and “Godspell”. “Working” also features songs by multiple composers, including five-time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter, James Taylor. Taylor is best known for his 1970 hit single “Fire and Rain”, his 1971 rendition of Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend”, and for his 1976 Greatest Hits album, which has sold over 12 million US copies. The production is designed by Emilio Martinez Zurita De La Garza ’13 (scenic), Charlotte Vosseler ’12 (costumes), Sean Haggerty ’12 (sound design), and Clay Harding ’13 (lighting). Ben Andersen ’12 is the stage manager, with Marisa Andrews ’14, Miriam Salzman ’13, and Sammy Panzarino ’14 as the assistant stage managers. Lucy Walker ’14 and Amanda Sirois ’13 are the dramaturgs, and Jeanne Hu ’12 is the technical director. Assistant director for “Working” is Sarah Schostack ’13. The cast of “Working” includes Will Boyajian ’12, Danny Bristoll ’12, Kayley Collins ’15, Olivia Donalson ’15, Ned Donovan ’12, Denzel Edmondson ’12, Andres Feliz ’15, Hannah Guillory ’12, Elizabeth Hake ’12, Stephen Humes ’14, Danny Lindgren ’12, Mallory Newbrough ’12, Katie Peters ’12, Avery Sobczak ’14, Grace Stockdale ’14, and Amberlee Weber ’12. A nationally recognized professional theatre training program, the Department of Theatre Arts attracts students from across the United States. Throughout the production season, undergraduate students present all aspects of theatre in a professional model. Dillingham Center accommodates all patrons. Ithaca College Theatre will present a musical to ring in the spring, “Working.” Performances will run in the Clark Theatre in Dillingham Center at 8 p.m. on March 27, 29, 30, 31, April 3–,7, and at 2 p.m. on April 1 and 7. Based on the book of the same name by Studs Terkel, “Working” tackles the question “why do we work?” and provides insightful, humorous, and real answers from people of different occupations.
