Mary Pitti, Clinic Program Director and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (along with former Ithaca College faculty member Elizabeth Begley) has developed a new app called iName it.

iName it it can be used effectively by Speech-Language Pathologists and family members and individuals experiencing word finding difficulties. It is designed for people that have varying levels of word finding deficits. This app is designed for adults, but can also be used with adolescents and children. The app targets individuals with word finding difficulties secondary to aphasia. Additionally, it can benefit individuals with apraxia that are assisted by visual and sentence completion cues.

This app consists of fifty nouns that are commonly found in the home. The target items are displayed within the context of the rooms where they are typically located. Each target word can be elicited by using one or more of the five different types of cues available. Opportunities for multiple practice of target words within each room as well as data collection are available. iName it provides users with a simple, yet systematic way to retrieve target words depicted in realistic photo scenes and augmented by five types of evidence based cueing.

iName it was released in March, 2012 after more than a year of development and testing work. This is Professor Pitti's third iPhone app release.
