Kathy Greenlee, assistant secretary for aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will discuss "The Future of Aging Policy in America" on Thursday, April 12, as the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute Distinguished Speaker for Spring 2012. Free and open to the public, the lecture will begin at 7 p.m. in the Park Hall Auditorium, with a reception to follow.

With changes in Medicare taking place as a result of the Affordable Care Act (now under scrutiny by the Supreme Court) and the Older Americans Act of 1965 up for reauthorization, Ms. Greenlee's perspective and information will be most timely.

In addition to reviewing the Administration on Aging's latest policy developments, Greenlee will discuss the current state of the Aging Network to enhance the dignity of elders and to promote long-term services and supports for older Americans and adults with disabilities.

Kathy Greenlee was appointed by President Obama as assistant secretary of aging and confirmed by the Senate in June 2009. Assistant Secretary Greenlee is committed to building the capacity of the national aging network to better serve older persons, caregivers and individuals with disabilities so that they can live in the community as they age.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations at the talk should contact the Gerontology Institute as soon as possible by calling 274-1965 or emailing aging@ithaca.edu.
