Earth Hour 2012 is scheduled for TONIGHT (Saturday, March 31) from 8:30 to 9:30 PM. The basic idea of Earth Hour is to turn off your lights and otherwise reduce energy consumption during that hour as an act of environmental awareness and personal commitment to sustainability.

This year, President Tom Rochon has agreed to bring down the lights on the face of Dillingham and in the spire of the A&E Center during that hour on Saturday night. Sustainability at Ithaca has purchased locally-made, beeswax candles for participants to hold a candlelight vigil and/or candlelight across-campus procession during that hour.

If you want to help Ithaca College observe Earth Hour, please do one or more of the following:

(1) TONIGHT, starting at 8:30PM, be sure your own lights are turned off for the hour. If you will be out of your room on campus during that period, please make sure your room lights are turned off before you leave.

(2) If you are interested in participating in the candlelight event, gather around the sundial next to the Job Hall side of the fountain pool - across from Dillingham Center - prior to 8:30PM and wait for the lights to come down on that building. Participants can decide whether to remain at the sundial or walk with their candles across campus to the A&E Center (from dark point to dark point).

Thanks in advance for your support in celebrating Ithaca College's environmental and sustainability commitments to act responsibly as a community.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Marian Brown at mbrown@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3787. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
