Dr. Nuttall presented a paper entitled "Rhythm and Rhymes, Rasas and Rasikas: On the Intimate Relation between Rasa, Tala, Laya and Hindustani Tabla Performance."

The symposium (March 31-April 1), hosted by the South Asian Program at Cornell and Ithaca College's Theater Arts Department, was on "Rasa: In Theory, Practice and Performance."  Rasa is a sanskrit word that is often translated as "flavor" or "taste" referring to an interdisciplinary concept and its practice in Indian artistic traditions.  The two day long symposium included scholars and performers that gave talks and performed on traditional instruments.  Dr. Nuttall also performed on tabla, one of the traditional drum instruments of India.
