Last fall I launched a search for an Assistant Provost for Research and Graduate Studies.  That individual would have overseen the grants management process for the College and also assumed certain centralized functions related to the administration of graduate programs. Despite the excellent work of the search committee, that search failed and has now been officially closed. As a result, I am reorganizing the position and assigning the graduate administration functions to the new Special Assistant to the Provost (see related Intercom posting).

I am simultaneously pleased to announce an internal search for a faculty member to assume the position of Director of Research.  The new director will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan for enhancing the growth of externally funded research, scholarship, and performance activities, especially in support of undergraduate research. He or she will work to improve the institution’s grants infrastructure and to promote a campus climate supportive of sponsored research activity.  The director will oversee grants administration and compliance, and manage all phases of grant related administrative activity.  More broadly, the director will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty across campus to promote undergraduate research.

This position is open only to tenured faculty members or senior NTEN faculty.  The preferred candidate will have a strong record of externally funded research and knowledge of federal grant processes, and a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate research. Interested individuals should send a letter of interest and an updated vita to me electronically at provost@ithaca.edu.  Materials should be submitted no later than Monday April 23rd.
