Register Now for Gerontology Institute Workshop on Financial Concerns for Older ConsumersContributed by Paula Davis on 04/09/12
Understanding personal finance instruments that have been developed or expanded in recent years requires knowledge and diligence. Reverse mortgages, annuities, internet banking, and credit and debit cards have different requirements, costs, and effects on personal finances. At the same time, scams on the internet or by mail continue to target older people and their money. This workshop will discuss the consumer and legal issues of financial contracts, financial exploitation, and what can be done to protect older people and their families. Mr. Danaher prosecutes consumer fraud and other affirmative justice cases and supervises the Attorney General's Consumer Mediation Program in the Binghamton Region. He also handles the not-for-profit cases in the region. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact the Gerontology Institute at 274-1965 or email aging@ithaca.edu as soon as possible. |
