When the U.S. Congress passed the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) it imposed a new obligation on the college as a participant in Title IV federal student financial aid programs. That obligation is to disclose to the maximum extent practicable on our Internet course schedule the International Standards Book Number (ISBN) and retail price for textbooks and supplemental materials for each course listed on the schedule. Ithaca College publishes its course schedule on the Internet via HomerConnect. In order to comply with the HEOA textbook provision, the college has implemented the Follett “booklook” solution. Booklook ties directly to HomerConnect, leveraging the Ithaca College Campus Store and the textbook database to display author, title, ISBN and all other information required for full compliance with the HEOA. When viewing the class schedule listing after completing a class schedule search in HomerConnect, users will see a “Go To Bookstore” link placed immediately below each course section listed. Clicking on the link will display a campus store information window where the user can select one of two links to proceed to the Campus Store online, depending on whether or not the user wishes to activate browser cookies, to view textbook and other course material information. The link that activates cookies allows students to order textbooks online when the textbook information is available.
