Patricia Zimmermann, professor in the Department of Cinema, Photography and Media Arts and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, was one of the featured invited speakers at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Communications Forum on March 20.

The forum, “Documentary Film and New Technologies,” was a public dialogue with Zimmermann, Gerry Flahive (National Film Board of Canada), Shari Frilot (Sundance Film Festival) and Ingrid Kopp (Tribeca Film Institute), moderated by scholar William Urrichio.

For 30 years, the MIT Communications Forum has played a unique role as a locus for sustained exploration of the cultural, political economic and technological impact of communications, with special emphasis on emerging technologies. The Forum engages leading scholars, journalists, media producers, and other from around the globe in cutting edge discussion on how emerging media are changing our world.

In addition, Zimmermann was an invited participant in “The New Arts of Documentary”, a one-day summit for mediamakers, technologists, scholars, curators, and funders to probe documentary's landscape of innovation and ideation, sponsored by MIT’s Open Documentary Lab.
