School of Music Announces the Retirement of Sanford Reuning, Music EducationContributed by Molly O'Shea Polk on 04/23/12 The School of Music announces the retirement of Sanford Reuning, associate professor, adjunct, of music education. Sandy has been a member of the faculty since 1963 and is one of the leading national experts in Suzuki string pedagogy. In addition to his teaching position, he has been the director of the Summer Suzuki Institute since its inception 38 years ago. Thanks to Professor Reuning, Ithaca College has become a destination for studying the philosophy and teaching of Shinichi Suzuki and over the years has taught literally thousands of young students to play the string instruments and piano utilizing the "Mother Tongue" or Suzuki method. The School of Music expresses heartfelt and deep appreciation to Sandy for his remarkable work and ongoing dedication over the years, and wishes him the best in his retirement. |

Congratulations on your retirement news! It is bittersweet, however, for the music school to be losing you! Thank you for those four wonderful years that you were Laura's violin teacher. I learned so much sitting in on the lessons and taking notes.
Best wishes to you!
