The 2012 Golden Doorknob Awards and Screening will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, April 27 in the Park Hall Auditorium at Ithaca College. Winning filmmakers will split $5,000 in prizes, and receive the coveted Golden Doorknob Award. More than 100 students participated in this year’s contest. The films were reviewed by alumni industry judges including: Bill Carraro ’81, executive producer, Tower Heist and The Adjustment Bureau; Dan Heffner ’78, executive producer, the SAW franchise; David Spiegelman ’80, president, domestic television & digital distribution at Relativity Media, LLC; and Liz Tigelaar ’98, co-executive producer, Once Upon a Time and consulting producer, Revenge. Death by doorknob? The Golden Doorknob Awards are a tradition at the Roy H. Park School of Communications, dating back to the 1970s. Back in those days the films were silent, black and white, and all film students had the same assignment: make a short film that presents the most imaginative way to kill someone with a doorknob. The contest was revived in 2009.
