Ithaca, NY – On Friday, May 4, the Durland Alternatives Library will hold an art show in Studio West located at 516 West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Ithaca from 5:00pm to 9:00pm during First Friday Gallery Night. The show will feature over 45 pieces of artwork from the Just Seeds Artists’ Collective, a group of contemporary artists who have addressed a myriad of topics in the “Celebrate People’s History” series, from Emma Goldman and Malcom X to the Occupation of Alcatraz and the Zapatista uprising in Mexico. Local artists will also be featured, as well. Refreshments will be served at the event and it is free to the public. Proceeds from all art sales will be used to support the Alternatives Library mission. Since 1974, the Durland Alternatives Library has been providing free materials which are not commonly found through mainstream media channels. With our vast collection of books, zines, documentaries, feature films, music, books on tape/cd, and periodicals, we create a space that nurtures dialogue and promotes a radical, “connect the dots” approach to social change. For more information about the Celebrate People’s History Art Show, contact Ryan Clover-Owens at 607 255 9730 or via email at alt-lib@cornell.edu.
