It is a great pleasure to announce the appointment of our new Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE).  This position is a key resource in supporting and enhancing IC 20/20 initiatives, and we are delighted to have found an exceptionally talented and well-qualified individual to fill this essential role.  Dr. Wade E. Pickren was selected as the top candidate in a national competitive search, and will be arriving on campus in mid-July.

Our new CFE Director received his Ph.D. in Psychology and the History of Science from the University of Florida.  He is a widely respected author/editor of six books, numerous journal articles and book chapters, and has given conference presentations and invited talks on four continents.  Wade is co-editor of the book series, International and Cultural Psychology (Springer SBM), and the Editor-in-Chief of the Wiley-Blackwell Encyclopedia of the History of Psychology.  Before coming to Ithaca College, Wade most recently served as Professor and Chair of the Psychology Department at Pace University in New York City.  He is the Editor of History of Psychology and has served as the Historian of the American Psychological Association since 1998.  He serves as President-elect of the Society for General Psychology and the Past-President of the Society for the History of Psychology, as well as a Fellow of four APA Divisions.

An experienced classroom teacher, Wade has taught courses at introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels in large and small classes, developed new courses, supervised students in service learning experiences, and served on relevant academic committees at every level.  He also has substantial experience working with graduate programs.  Wade is deeply committed to the integration of research and teaching, both in his own career and as a mentor to others.  An active researcher, Wade’s current interests include internationalizing the undergraduate curriculum, the transmission of knowledge across national and cultural boundaries, indigenous knowledge, and understanding resilience among immigrants and refugees.  His past projects have included histories of race, ethnicity, and gender in post-WWII American psychology.

Many thanks to the faculty members who served on the search committee for this position: Annemarie Farrell, Deborah Martin, Hormoz Movassaghi, Gordon Rowland, and Matthew Sullivan.  Thanks also to the members of the Faculty Development Committee for their work on developing this new position, and for their engaged participation in the interview process.  We are delighted to welcome Wade Pickren to our campus as the new Director of the Center for Faculty Excellence, and look forward to working with him to create new opportunities for all faculty members through the CFE.
