Mara Alper’s multimedia presentation Re-Imagining Water was part of Earth Day events in New Orleans in April for the Social Change Film Festival in conjunction with the New Orleans Film Society. This talk and her workshop Approaches to Environmental Media were given at Dillard University.
The 2nd Annual Social Change Film Festival & Institute 2012 theme is Global Water Crisis: Challenges & Solutions and will take place in New Orleans in November. The Earth Day presentations were part of the kick-off events. This festival promotes transformative filmmaking & fostering social change. The New Orleans Film Society was founded in 1989. This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the New Orleans Film Festival, which has grown into a major showcase of local, regional, national, and international films. Mara Alper is committed to water issues education and created the IC course Water Planet: Perspectives on Water Sustainability. She has been part of the IC community since 1998 and teaches video production in the newly reorganized Department of Media Arts, Sciences and Studies in the Park School.
