The following is the latest construction updates from the city of Ithaca regarding street construction? Our thanks to the City Clerk's office. This is going to be a rough week for downtown but once we survive it, things should get exponentially better in terms of traffic circulation. Starting either tomorrow or Thursday (depending on the weather and ground conditions), the New York State Department of Transportation will begin a three-day paving operation: Day 1 will include the paving of Green Street - expect lane restrictions and delayed traffic. Day 2 will include paving around the tuning fork (State Street / Seneca Street wrap-around) - expect lane restrictions, and a possible short-term (20-30 minute) full closure. We do not have any information to share on when this could occur - if we obtain that information, we will share it as soon as possible. This will cause significant traffic back-ups. Day 3 will include the paving of Seneca Street to Cayuga Street - expect lane restrictions and delayed traffic. In addition to this work - the Water & Sewer Division is installing new water & sewer services to the Collegetown Terrace Apartment complex in the 900 block of East State Street until Thursday. Traffic is being re-directed around this work. The City urges both motorists and pedestrians to use caution in these areas, obey traffic control devices, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination. Do not drive around barricades as these areas will be rigorously enforced to protect the safety of the workers. While this work will create substantial disruption for the next few days, the end result will be an improved road infrastructure that will serve us well for years to come. Also note that the Clinton St bridge by the Police Station will be closed for a long time which is an alternate route for the other construction mentioned above.

Don't forget the water works construction by the lake headed to Esty's Hill and on 13 going north. It's a bear getting in and out of town if you live to the north on the east side of the lake. Sounds like I am glad I am out of town at a conference this week.

I am appalled the city decided to do all it's road work during the 5 days
when all the students are trying to get around Ithaca to go home for the summer. The town of Ithaca as well as the local government has just come off as colossally stupid. Two weeks from now when half of the entire population of Ithaca is gone was too far away for them to start? Unbelievable. |
