Thanks to Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick, city public works crews, and project contractors, Clinton Street will be open during Commencement weekend and it will not be necessary to detour around the construction project.

Below is the announcement from the City of Ithaca.

City Opens Clinton Street Bridge for Ithaca College Commencement
May 18, 2012

Ithaca, NY – At Mayor Svante L. Myrick's request and with the cooperation of the
contractor FAHS Construction, the City of Ithaca has arranged to open the Clinton Street Bridge to accommodate the increase of visitors expected to attend the Ithaca College commencement ceremony.

The bridge will be opened at 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2012 and will be reclosed at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, 2012.

“After speaking with our Engineering staff and the contractor it's clear that the bridge reconstruction project would be best served by keeping the bridge closed all weekend. However, Ithaca College is a friend and a neighbor. Commencement is a special time for them, so it is a special time for us. Their guests are our guests. That's why I've decided that stopping work and re-opening the bridge is the right thing to do.” stated Mayor Svante Myrick. “I appreciate the willingness of the contractor to assist us in facilitating a safe and efficient route to handle the thousands of visitors.”

Questions regarding the bridge project schedules can be forwarded to Bridge Systems Engineer Addisu Gebre at (607) 274-6530.
