Did you know that more than 3,500 Americans die each year in fires and approximately 18,300 are injured? An overwhelming number of these fires occur in the home.

There are many ways to prevent fires in your home and around you. Some general tips include:

• Every home should have at least one working smoke alarm
• Use appliances wisely
• Alternate heaters
• Plan your Escape

Don’t forget to come and learn about Fire Safety and Extinguishing on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 12:00pm-1:00pm in the Peggy R. Williams Center, HR Conference Room GL-52.  Timothy Ryan, Manager from the Environmental Health and Safety Department, will teach us the importance of fire safety and how to use a fire extinguisher with a live demonstration.
