Sustainability Café on November 12 will explore the potential of biocharContributed by Marian Brown on 11/07/12 The Sustainability Café on Monday, November 12th will feature Dr. Johannes Lehmann from Cornell University discussing “Biochar for Environmental Management: Issues and Opportunities". The Sustainability Café will be held in Center for Natural Sciences Room 112 at 4:00PM in conjunction with the Environmental Seminar. Dr. Johannes Lehmann, associate professor of soil biogeochemistry and soil fertility management at Cornell University, received his graduate degrees in Soil Science at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. During the past ten years, he has focused on nano-scale investigations of soil organic matter, the biogeochemistry of black carbon and sequestration in soil. Dr. Lehmann is a member of the steering group of the US National Soil Carbon Network, has testified before the U.S. Congress, briefed the President’s council of advisors, and was part of Workgroup 2 on Monitoring and Assessment of Sustainable Land Management of UNCCD. Dr. Lehmann is the co-founder and chair of the Board of the International Biochar Initiative. This event is free and open to the public. Drink in a new way to think in the Sustainability Café.
