Learn about the OSIRIS-REx Asteroid Sample Return Mission with Principal Investigator Dante S. LaurettaContributed by Jill Ackerman on 09/06/12
Please join us for his presentation, Thursday, September 13, 2012 at noon in CNS 208. The OSIRIS-REx mission will be returning samples from an organic-rich asteroid not found in our meteorite collections. The samples may be similar to the material that seeded Earth with the organic molecules that led to life. OSIRIS-REx will also provide ground truth for telescope spectra, investigate resources available for use in space, and help lessen the effects of asteroid impacts. Dante Lauretta holds a Ph.D. in earth and planetary sciences from Washington University in St. Louis. His research focuses on the chemistry and mineralogy of asteroids and comets.
